Postmark or fax by March 18th! Senator Murkowski is now accepting applications from high school seniors for her summer high school internship program. All Alaskan high school seniors may apply for the opportunity to spend four weeks working and learning in Senator Murkowski's Washington, D.C. office. The Senator will select a total of twenty students from all areas of Alaska to participate in two, month-long sessions—ten students for each session. Housing and transportation will be coordinated by the Senator's office, but interns will be responsible for the cost. A small stipend will be paid. Interns gain insight into the workings of a Senate office and how the legislative process works by assisting Senator Murkowski and her staff in legislative and constituent duties, including day-to-day clerical and administrative tasks such as directing mail, speaking with constituents, running errands, and assisting staff with research projects. Each intern also has the opportunity to shadow the Senator for an entire day (after which they are usually exhausted!) and to attend briefings on a variety of issues. They will also have the opportunity enjoy the many educational and cultural activities that are available in the Washington, D.C. area. The deadline by which all applications must be submitted is Thursday, March 14, 2013. Note that applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications online or by fax; Congressional mail screening procedures cause significant delays in the arrival of all documents that go through the mail, including those sent via Priority or Express mail. Applications that are received after the deadline will not be considered. Click here for more information.
